The Belgian glassmaker Glaverbel SA announced on 3 February that it has created a new company called Glaverbel Vertec Shenzen Co. in Shenzen, Guangdong, China. It will be specialised in the processing of extra-thin glass plates for the manufacture of LCDs (liquid crystal displays). Representing an investment of US$ 5 million, the new operation will employ about 40 people. Glaverbel, controlled by Japan“s Asahi Glass Co. Ltd., said activities at the plant, near Hong Kong, will begin sometime this year and will utilise extra-thin float glass supplied by the group“s plant in Mol, Belgium.
