Three senior managers have moved from the US bottle maker Ball-Foster to top positions at Anchor Glass Container Corporation. Rick Deneau, CEO at Ball-Foster, has joined Anchor as President and CEO. Roger L. Erb, a senior vice president at Ball-Foster, and Gordon S. Love, a vice president, have joined Anchor as Senior Vice President, engineering, and Senior Vice President, sales and marketing, respectively. The appointments announced recently are the latest in a series of actions to revitalise Anchor, which had net profits from operations in April and May (the first since September 1995). John J. Ghaznavi, the Chairman and CEO of Anchor“s parent, Canada“s Consumers Packaging, whose privately held investment company is the majority shareholder of Consumers, engineered the changes of Glenshaw Glass Company (US) in 1988 and of Consumers in 1993. Following their practice at those two companies, Mr. Ghaznavi and his team have cut Anchor“s expenses, closed excess plants and begun a programme of capital expenditure to increase productivity and improve quality. More than 1,000 jobs have been cut. In April, Anchor reported a profit of US$ 300,000 and Mr. Ghaznavi expects May to see profits reach US$ 1.5 million. The combined Anchor, Consumers and Glenshaw companies have annual revenues in excess of US$ 1.3 billion.
