18 December 1997: Owens-Corning Canada Inc. based in Toronto, Canada, will close its glass-fibre insulation plant in Quebec next April, leaving 265 employees unemployed. Plant manager Michel Tremblay said the shutdown was caused by excess capacity, stagnant prices and a drop in new housing in Eastern Canada.
