14 May 1998: UK-based Image Automation, a manufacturer of defect detection systems, and Strainoptic Technologies of the US have signed a co-operation agreement for the design, manufacture and sale of integrated on-line process measurement systems to the float-glass industry. The collaboration will provide float-glass manufacturers with the world“s most advanced on-line combination of automatic defect detection, optical-quality determination and stress measurement, the company said in a recent press release. A single integrated system will provide crucial process data through the same operator interface. Strainoptic Technologies specialises in the on-line measurement of stress in float glass and currently has systems operating successfully in more than 15 float-glass plants around the world. “Our aim is to provide our customers with even better value and systems integration, and as such we are now delighted to be working with Strainoptic Technologies,” said Campbell Dixon, managing director of Image Automation. “This is an exciting new development for both businesses. I am convinced that the combined skills and technologies of both companies will provide our customers with enhanced measuring Systems,” said Alex Redner, Strainoptic Technologies“ founder and president. Dixon and Redner noted that the two companies shared a common philosophy of providing their customers with superior products, in terms of both performance and ease of use.
