10 December 1998: The Thermo Materials division of Ceradyne, Inc. of the United States has announced the acquisition of two fused silica product lines from Harbison Walker, a division of Global Industries Technologies, Inc. John Griggs, Director of Sales for Thermo Materials said the purchase includes the trademarks and assets of Harbison“s “Masrock(R)” and “Fusil Foam(R)” brand names. The two brands acquired originated in the 1950s at Glasrock Inc. of Atlanta, Georgia, the world“s first producer of industrial fused silica commodities and shapes. Thermo Materials, a division of Ceradyne, Inc. since 1986, produces a wide variety of fused silica ceramic products at its plant in Scottdale, Georgia. The acquisition of the “Masrock(R)” and “Fusil Foam(R)” brands includes related technical assets such as formulations, moulds, tooling and engineering files, as well as customer related specifications. As part of this transaction, Harbison Walker has agreed to assist Thermo Materials in the orderly transfer of current and future orders from former Harbison Walker customers.
