Jean-Louis Beffa, the chairman of Saint-Gobain, said recently that he did not want to “definitively rule out” taking 100% control of Essilor. He did, however, indicate that such a move was not part of his present plans, nor those for the foreseeable future. Saint-Gobain controls 33.11% of Essilor capital and 39.02% of its voting rights. Beffa also confirmed that he wished to dispose of his stakes in Vivendi and BNP.
