Japan“s Advanced Colortech Inc., a fifty-fifty joint venture between Mitsubishi Chemical Corp. and Asahi Glass Co., will boost production of colour filters for liquid crystal displays, the company said. The company will build a new facility near its Kitakyushu plant at a cost of 13 billion yen to meet strong demand for LCD panels and increased need for larger glass substrates. Construction started earlier this month and is expected to be completed in January 2001, with commercial production slated for April. The new facility will enable Advanced Colortech to produce 14.1-inch glass substrates at the rate of 750,000 a month, about three times faster than the current pace, according to company officials.
