Philippine-based food and beverage giant San Miguel Corp. is planning to put up 26 major distribution centres all over the country in line with plans to venture into the logistics business. SMC is in the process of identifying sites for the planned sales centres, possibly in key cities, that will integrate the conglomerate“s entire sales destinations. SMC has been rationalizing its marketing and distribution systems after completing a number of acquisition moves. The company has managed to acquire Ayala-owned food firm Pure Foods Corp. and soft drink giant Coca-Cola Bottlers Phils., Inc. This month, it is set to sign the sale and purchase agreement with RFM Corp. for the purchase of another bottler, Cosmos Bottling Corp. The company has recently formed a Corporate Key Accounts Group (CKAG), an integration of the key accounts units of San Miguel Beer Division; La Tondena Distillers, Inc.; and Philippine Dairy Products Corp. SMC chairman Eduardo “Danding” Cojuancgo, Jr. has announced plans to make a move in the logistics business through its planned PHP 10-billion agro-industrial-ecological estate. The move is seen to transform SMC from a food and beverage company to a logistics and distribution powerhouse where all its products and those of its subsidiaries will be processed.
