The relocation of a US$ 60 million gas plant, which was officially opened on 5 April at Whyalla is expected to provide a major economic boost to the city and industries across South Australia. BOC Gases“ new plant will replace an aging plant in Newcastle, as well as some of the company“s Adelaide operations. The company“s managing director, David Hind, said that South Australia will become a key producer of oxygen, nitrogen and argon. He said the company is expected to provide a boost to several major industries, including the provision of gas to the South Australian Steel and Energy pig iron plant in Whyalla.
