Japan“s Kureha Chemical Industry Co. has developed a special resin interlayer for windows which can absorb 80% of solar heat without blocking out the light. The interlayer is made from a resin material with added copper to absorb those wavelengths of solar radiation that readily convert to heat, and a special compound that maintains transparency to allow the passage of light from the visible part of the spectrum. Kureha plans to market the resin interlayer sometime during fiscal 2006 for auto and residential glass applications. The company targests sales of JPY 10 billion within 5 years and plans to make the interlayer one of its main products.
