Minerals Technologies Inc., will build a plant in Texas to produce a new composite mineral for the glass industry, the specialty minerals maker said 8 December 2005. The company said its new facility at Cleburne, Texas, will have a capacity of 200,000 tons per year of synsil products. Minerals Technologies expects the plant to be operational in the 4Q 2006. The synsil product speeds melting and integration of raw materials during glass melting, allows higher yields, lowers furnace temperatures, and reduces energy and emissions, the company said. In March 2005, Minerals Technologies announced construction of a 200,000 ton per year merchant manufacturing facility in Chester, South Carolina.
