A fire which broke out at a soda ash plant in the Green River, Wyoming area on 11 July 2008 was quickly brought under control. There were no injuries and damage was confined to a roof at the Solvay Chemicals plant. The fire broke out around 1 p.m. (US Mountain Time) on 11 July 2008. Green River fire officials say workers were evacuated from part of the plant. The fire was brought under control by 2:45 p.m. and was extinguished by 3:15 p.m. Wyoming producers accounted for more than 95% of US soda ash production in 2006, according to a report by Dennis Kostick of the US Geological Survey.
