Pella: windows with smartphone-run blinds

Pella’s SmartSync, in combination with Lowe’s Iris system, will allow shades or blinds to be controlled simply by a remote control or by a home or building automation system using Web-enabled devices such computers and most smart phones.

SmartSync technology, the newest innovation from Pella®, will integrate with the newest cloud-based home management system from Lowe’s, the world’s second-largest home improvement retailer.
Called Iris, the Lowe’s system is an affordable, cloud-based complete home management system that enables customers to control and interact with their home from anywhere using their smart phone or computer.
Pella SmartSync is an integrated system that allows shades or blinds to be controlled simply by a remote control or by a home or building automation system through Web-enabled devices such computers and most smart phones.
“Pella SmartSync technology is designed to integrate with the intuitive new Lowe’s Iris home management system. Once these smart home products are available later in 2012, combining SmartSync with the Iris system from Lowe’s will help monitor and control operation of popular products such as the blinds and shades in Pella windows and doors in the home,” said Pella Senior Manager Dan Wilco.
Upon its entry into the emerging smart home market later in 2012, Pella will provide products that can be easily integrated through SmartSync technology to provide convenience and peace of mind. SmartSync will enable to programme blinds or shades to open and close as per a desired schedule, to help homes look occupied whether its residents are home or away, any time of the day or night.
To help save energy, Pella suggests homeowners open southern-facing window treatments in the winter to help let in the sun’s warming rays during the day, and close them at night to help keep heat in as outdoor temperatures drop. Likewise, closing blinds or shades during the day in the summer helps limit interior heat gain, helping reduce potential cooling costs.
According to Wilcox, Pella SmartSync technology helps increase a home’s energy efficiency. In fact, between-the-glass blinds or shades featuring this technology can manage the sun’s light and heat over two times more efficiently than windows without blinds or shades, according to Wilcox.
