China has updated its national standard for insulating glass, GB/T 11944-2025, taking effect July 1, 2026.
Among the changes, one stands out for the industry: Appendix H formally introduces TDLAS (Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy) as the recognised non-destructive method for measuring inert gas content in IGUs.
Sparklike Laser Portable™ is based on TDLAS technology, the same principle now recognised in GB/T 11944-2025.
China is setting a strong precedent. By formally recognising TDLAS as the measurement method in a national standard, the industry gains a reliable, non-destructive way to verify what is actually inside an IGU, across double and triple glazing and through most coatings and laminated glass constructions.
