Glass Futures to introduce the Glass Futures Container Consortium

Decarbonising glass containers at scale remains one of the biggest challenges facing our industry. On 22 January, Glass Futures will introduce the Glass Futures Container Consortium alongside the launch of 50 by ’35, a new, industry‑led initiative focused on halving the carbon footprint of glass containers by 2035.

The programme is built around a collaborative, pre‑competitive model, bringing together organisations from across the glass value chain to accelerate innovation, reduce technical and commercial risk, and deliver industrial‑scale impact.

The session will share key insights from recent industry consultations and outline how the consortium will operate, including its initial R&D priorities:
• Coating technology
• Lightweighting
• High‑cullet furnace operation
• Alternative raw materials
• Low‑carbon fuels and energy systems

It will also explore how collaborative R&D can play a practical role in supporting net‑zero ambitions and Scope 3 targets, while enabling faster progress than individual efforts alone.

If you’re working across the glass value chain and interested in how the industry can collectively address decarbonisation, the webinar provides a useful overview of what’s coming next.
