With effect from January 1, 2025, the Reiling Group is taking over the company Scandinavian Glass Recycling AB, based in Åstorp, Sweden. Reiling is thus further expanding its presence on the Scandinavian market.
Reiling was previously represented with 10 glass recycling plants and 2 glass logistics centres in Germany, Poland, Denmark and Sweden. In Sweden, Reiling has been operating its own collection logistics for flat glass for over 20 years. To date, this has been carried out by the subsidiary in Nastved, Denmark, and its Swedish company Swede Glass United AB.
With this strategic acquisition, Reiling has now also secured a recycling location in Sweden and is thus further expanding its market penetration. The new plant is also an important building block for Reiling in the entire process chain in order to meet the high quantity and quality requirements of the float glass industry. Some of the collected flat glass can now be recycled in Sweden and transportation to more distant branches in Denmark or Germany is reduced. This saves freight costs and CO2 emissions. In addition to the float glass industry, local container glass and glass wool manufacturers are also among the customers for the high-quality recycled cullet.
Overall, Marc Uphoff, Reiling Glas Recycling Managing Director, sees further potential for development. “We want to close the material cycle for flat glass in a sustainable way. Our aim is to increase the proportion of flat glass to be recycled in Sweden and thus feed more high-quality cullet into the float glass, container glass and glass wool industries and reduce the proportion of flat glass cullet in landfill sites or construction waste.”
Further investment will follow to achieve this.
