MELTING TECHNOLOGY
Melting technology
The ‘hot glass’ area is covered
by suitably designed drop chutes
and scraper conveyors, the “cold
glass” area by conveyors, crush-
ers, magnetic separators, etc.
Thus, with this technology the
prepared cullet can be fed back
to the furnaces.
Both furnaces are operated
with a – for Asian conditions –
high cullet ratio of min. 40 per-
cent. The required foreign cullet
is delivered prepared, but may
still contain impurities.
Apart from conventional metal
detection, a fully automated all-
metal-elimination process, by
means of an eddy current sys-
tem, is integrated into the cullet
dosing system. Thus it is possi-
ble to improve the quality of the
dosed cullet and consequentially
increase the furnace lifetimes.
In order to specifically prevent
the introduction of Fe/Ne met-
als in the melt, a complex Fe/
Ne separation system was inte-
grated into the feeding process
for storing the cullet in foreign
cullet silos. Here, attention was
not only paid to the detection
and elimination of impurities, it
was also ensured that as little as
possible cullet is discarded and
thus saving lost ‘precious raw
materials’.
