                  PATTERNED GLASS FACTORY

                  TO CLOSE

União Brasileira de Vidros (UBV), one of the largest producers of
patterned glass in Brazil, announced on 3 April that the factory is
going to close. Sergio Minerbo, President of the company, sadly
expressed that economic conditions and the local market situation
have made this decision indispensable and therefore, they will not
rebuild their furnace for another production cycle. The furnace
with a production capacity of 240 tons/day, situated in Cidade
Dutra of South of Sao Paulo therefore closed that day – 3 April.
At present, Brazil counts five flat glass producers: AGC, Cebrace,
Guardian and Vivx for float glass, and Saint Gobain Glass which
                  also produces patterned glass.
