The Glass Recipe
O-I BJC Glass Malaysia uses all natural raw materials
- silica sand, limestone, soda ash and recycled glass
(cullet), in its glass recipe or batch mixture. Once com-
bined, these ingredients are transferred to the furnace
for melting.
Melting
The furnace heats the batch mixture to about 1,500
degrees Celsius or 2,700 degree Fahrenheit, creating Melting
molten glass.
The ‘Gob’
The molten glass is conditioned from the furnace, cooled
to a uniform temperature and cut into “gobs”. Each gob
will form a single glass container.
Forming
Gobs are diverted into forming machines where they
are molded into glass containers.
Forming
Annealing
Formed containers pass through the lehr, where they are
reheated and gradually cooled to relieve any stresses
in the glass. This conditioning step strengthens the glass
containers and helps prevent breakages.
Inspection
Each glass container undergoes a rigorous inspection
process to ensure the highest quality. Any rejected con-
tainers are remelted as cullet.

Packaging & Shipping
Glass containers are stacked on pallets with corrugated
sheets between each layer. The pallets are then strapped
and shrinkwrapped to ensure stability before shipping
it out.
