he Birgi-Holding, including three companies
dealing with glass production, is situated in the
Tcity of Birgi near the west coast of Turkey and is
well known for some of the finest examples of early
Turkish architecture in Asia Minor. The tradition of
pride displayed in the works of the old craftsmen of
this ancient little town is reflected in the products of the
BirgiMefar group of companies.
Starting in 1963 with the establisment of Birgi San-
ayi A.S¸., and enjoying a vigorous growth since then,
the group presently comprises several manufacturing,
trading, distributing and service companies.
In June 2011, a controlling interest in the Group was
acquired by Ethemba Capital and NBGI Private Equity
under the new company called Mefar International.

The holding controls three companies: Birgi and Me-
far for glass production; Defar as a logistics and
distribution company. Here their details:

U Founded in 1963
U Producer of tubular glass containers for pharmaceu-
tical, medical, and cosmetic industries
U ISO 9001 certified by Bureau Veritas since 1996
U D.M.F. Type III numbers, approved and given by Food
and Drugs Administration (FDA), in January 2006
Mefar
U Founded as a joint venture in 1985
U Toll-manufacturer of small- and medium- volume par-
enteral solutions, in ampoules, syringes (polypropyl-
ene or glass), vials and bottles, as well as sterile
solutions in blow- fill- seal containers
U GMP certified by German and British Health Author-
ities
U Actively exports to the EU and other international
markets
U Equipped with fully automatic production lines
Defar
Defar has been established in 2006 by BirgiMefar as
a logistics and distribution company. The company
management is based on good manufacturing and
warehousing / logistics practices and BirgiMefar qual-
ity policies.
