Zytronic, which specialises in the manufacturer of touch sensors and optical filters for electronic displays, said 8 December 2010 that its production managers had made significant advances in operational efficiency during its financial year ended 30 September 2010. This was highlighted by a comparison of the increasing turnover of the Group with a reduction in the productive labour being used, it explained. During the year, Newcastle-upon-Tyne-based Zytronic said it decreased the workforce from an average of 169 to an average of 144. The reduction was proof of the efficiency improvements made in using a new facility, in introducing new ATM product designs and in effecting “numerous changes to the manufacturing processes”. Operating from three modern factories near Newcastle, Zytronic assembles touch sensors, optical filters and other laminates, using special glass and plastic materials, in environmentally controlled clean rooms. To continue to gain efficiency improvements in 2011, two new laminating machines had been ordered and the company plans to refurbish its oldest cleanroom facility in 2011 which will reduce running costs and enhance its capabilities. Chairman David Banks said: “The success of our touch sensor products in the self-service, kiosk and digital signage markets augurs well for the future. To this must be added recent contract wins in the gaming sector and the first white-goods product with a Zytronic touch sensor display which is expected to be launched early in 2011”. While he did not expect a repeat of 2010“s dramatic growth in sales of optical filters to the ATM (cash dispenser) market where volumes were up by 36%, he was confident of further improvements in trading performance. In the year to September 2010, revenue increased by 16% to GBP 18.5m (2009: GBP 15.9m) with exports representing 90% of sales and pre-tax profit increased by 27% to GBP 2.9m (2009: GBP 2.3m).
