A one-million-tonne-per-year soda ash project at Suide in Shaanxi province has passed a preliminary feasibility study evaluation, according to a local daily. The soda ash project is being proposed by Zhejiang Guangyu Group, headquartered in Shaoxing (Zhejiang province). The group plans to invest CNY 2.2 billion in a soda ash project in Suide county, (Yulin city, Shaanxi province), in western China. Construction is expected to start in April 2009. Yulin has abundant rock salt resources, with prospective reserves of 6 trillion tons, about 52% of the total national reserves. Zhejiang Guangyu Group set up its subsidiary Zhejiang Glass Co., Ltd. in 1994; it was listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange on December 2001. Zhejiang Glass started up a 900,000 tonnes/annum soda ash plant in Qinghai in September 2005, to ensure raw material supplies.
