Demand for low iron glass used in the production of photovoltaic solar panels, which generate energy from natural sunlight, considers to see considerable growth. At present, China is at the forefront of this technology, producing 90% of the world“s capacity of solar glass, stimulating global interest from glassmakers who are producing this type of solar glass locally. Zedtec, part of the TECO Group, and specialist in glass conditioning technology, has now provided dedicated distributors and forehearths to solar glass producers in eight different countries, with tonnages of up to 180 tpd per line, and ribbon widths of up to 2,800mm. The first low iron solar glass line in India, which uses a Zedtec forehearth, has been successfully in production for 12 months at Gujarat Borosil Ltd. The company produces high quality solar glass with a transmission of 91.6% and has an annual capacity of 4.3 million sq.m. of solar glass. David Senior, Zedtec“s technical sales manager, states: The input of Zedtec“s forehearth and distributor technology within the solar glass industry is testament to how we have worked closely with our customers over many years. By understanding our client“s needs and processes and developing and formulating our technology to suit these changes, has enabled us to play an integral part in major developments in glass manufacturing.
