Japan“s Yamato Electronic Co Ltd, which manufactures fluorescent lamps, will start full-scale production and commercialization of lead-free glass powder as of fiscal 2005/2006, it was reported on 30 September 2004. Lead-free glass powder is a material which has the general characteristics of leaded glass while containing no lead. It is used as an adhesive to seal parts in flat panel displays (FDP) and various types of electronic components. The company is targeting revenue of JPY 1 billion (USD 9.01 million/EUR 7.3 million) to JPY 1.5 billion (USD 13.5 million/EUR 10.9 million) for lead-free glass from the first year of full-scale output. Yamato Electronic was set up in 1978. The company has a registered capital of JPY 20 million (USD 180,000/EUR 146,300) and employs 79. Yamato Electronic“s product range includes flat fluorescent lamps, glass packages for fluorescent indicator panels and image sensors, ornamental lamps, lead-free glass powder and glass for electronic components.
