Japan“s Yamato Electronic Co Ltd, which manufactures fluorescent lamps, will start full-scale production and commercialization of lead-free glass powder as of fiscal 2005/2006, it was reported on 30 September 2004. Lead-free glass powder is a material which has the general characteristics of leaded glass while containing no lead. It is used as an adhesive to seal parts in flat panel displays (FDP) and various types of electronic components. The company is targeting revenue of JPY 1 billion (USD 9.01 million/EUR 7.3 million) to JPY 1.5 billion (USD 13.5 million/EUR 10.9 million) for lead-free glass from the first year of full-scale output.
