Webasto, a group specialized in supplying factory-installed and aftermarket sunroofs and heating systems worldwide, has signed a letter of intent for a joint venture with Italian, Turin-based Pininfarina, which continues its commitment in providing services to automakers. The new company, whose main responsibility will be planning, is to be headquartered in Germany and will be operating in the sector of sunroof systems. The general manager will be appointed by Webasto. Andrea Pinifarina, managing director of the family-run company, says that the aim of the new joint venture is to reach a production of 200,000 roof systems a day in four or five years. This would mean a turnover between Euro 150 and 250 million. The two partners will be taking on responsibility for production, which is to take place in the Pininfarina or Webasto plants, accordingly. Webasto has plants in 13 countries and a workforce of 4,600. Turnover is above Euro 1 billion. The Pininfarina group has a workforce of 2,700 and closed 2000 with turnover above Euro 710 million.
