Irish luxury crystal and porcelain group Waterford Wedgwood may sell German porcelain maker Rosenthal before the Christmas holidays, German daily Handelsblatt reported, citing industry sources. A spokesman for Waterford Wedgwood declined to comment on the report. But the company said that in the first week of December 2008 that it was continuing a strategic review of the Rosenthal business that could result in a sale of the company or just some of its assets. Media reports in June 2008 had said Rosenthal was priced at EUR 150-200 million (USD 199-265 million). Loss-making Waterford Wedgwood, which has been struggling for years to reverse a decline in demand for its luxury tableware, had said its lenders had agreed to give it more time for talks with institutional investors.
