Vitro S.A.“s second-quarter loss increased to US$ 60 million compared to a loss of US$ 53 million in 2001, mostly because of a foreign exchange loss, as sales fell 1.6% for the quarter ended 30 June to US$ 608 million from US$ 618 million a year ago. In a press release on 26 July, the Mexican glass producer said it recorded a second quarter foreign exchange loss of US$ 129 million, arising from the 10.4% depreciation of the peso against the US dollar during the quarter.
