Vitro Group reported that the company will provide Central General with specially designed packaging for purified water under the Alivia brand. Marco Leal, northern area packaging sales representative, said glass provides several advantages such as not affecting the flavour of the contents. Vitro reported recently in a statement to the Mexican stock exchange that it would reduce Grupo Modelo packaging orders at the end of 2008 due to the ongoing contraction in global markets. Grupo Modelo is one of Vitro“s key customers, but the brewer recently informed the glass maker that due to the current market downturn it has reduced its requirements for beer bottles. At the end of the 3Q 2008, Vitro reported that sales of containers rose 19%, year-on-year, while sales of flat glass fell 1.4% during the same period.
