Mexico“s Vitro has reached an agreement with International Business Machines Corp. to expand the Mexican glassmaker“s sales, supply procurement and operations on the Internet, Vitro said. “With the support of IBM we will look to become the first company in Latin American capable of making 80% of our purchases through the Internet,” Vitro Director Federico Sada said. The agreement calls for IBM to help refine Vitro“s electronic-business strategy and create a special office aimed at giving Vitro a sharper competitive edge through the Internet, the company said. In the coming months, Vitro plans to develop several Internet projects, such as client service and market research. Vitro operates more than 100 plants and distribution centres in eight countries.
