Vitro Cristalglass, the European subsidiary of Vitro S.A. de C.V., received ISO-9001 certification for four plants in Spain and Portugal, as well as ISO-9001 re-certification for its plants in Camponaraya, La Rozada, and Madrid, the Mexican parent company said on 27 June 2005. “ISO-9001 certification affirms our total-quality management systems, processes, and procedures. We supervise and control the processes in all of our plants through indicators we can continuously improve every year,” said Ruth Canedo, Quality Systems Manager for Vitro Cristalglass. David Gonzlez, President of Vitro Cristalglass, said, “Quality has evolved from a distinguishing element into an essential requisite for market participation.” “Quality is not a static concept; the requirements for certification are increasingly strict. By the end of 2005, our aim is to earn certification from the Spanish Standards and Certification Association (AENOR) for our Asturias, Galicia, and Valencia plants, symbolized by an N“ on our products,” added Gonzalez. Should Vitro Cristalglass accomplish this goal, the company would earn certification from AENOR for production and processes at seven plants“ by the end of 2005. Vitro Cristalglass operates an integrated network of nine facilities: seven glass fabrication plants located in Camponaraya (Lon), La Rozada (Lon), Fuenlabrada (Madrid), Chaves (Portugal), Porceyo, (Asturias), Nquera (Valencia) and Cerceda (Galicia); and two distribution facilities in La Corua and Barcelona, Spain. The company is part of Vitro“s flat-glass business, which focuses on manufacturing and distributing flat glass for the construction and automotive industries. In 2004 Vitro“s flat-glass business generated sales of USD 1.1 billion, representing approximately 48% of Vitro“s consolidated sales.
