In spite of a turbulent start to the year due to world economic instability, Vietnam Glass and Ceramics Corporation (Viglacera) is planning to double its export value in 2003, according to the corporation“s marketing chief department Nguyen The Vinh. Viglacera has experienced an average annual growth in export turnover of 150% since 1995, when it launched its export business with a modest turnover in the tens of thousands of dollars, Vinh said. In the first four months of 2003, however, the corporation only exported about USD 2 million, or just over one fifth of Viglacera“s USD 9.7 million target. Viglacera is targetting such markets as the United States and Canada, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Australia, a company official said. To penetrate these markets, the corporation will guide its affiliates in raising product quality and diversity, and push for international standards, he said. The corporation is promoting itself heavily through international fairs and is seeking foreign partners.
