The State-run Vietnam Glass & Ceramics Corp. (Viglacera) has recently announced it intends to build four major factories in Vietnam in coming months but provided no information about the capital for the expansion. Three of the planned factories, including Binh Duong Float Glass, Cotto Tile and Cotto Porcelain will be located in the southern province of Binh Duong. They will be capable of producing 300 tons of glass a day, 350,000 units of porcelain and one million sq. m. of tiles a year. The other factory, Gieng Day Cotto Tile, will be situated in the northern province of Quang Ninh. Capacity of the factory is not yet available. It has recently earmarked US$ 93.3 million for technology upgrades, production expansion and product diversification. Viglacera recorded total industrial production of US$ 66.12 million and revenues of VND883.8 billion US$ 58.1 million in the first half of this year, up 40% and 48.2% on-year, respectively. Earnings from installation services grew 270.8% and sales of construction materials 38.1%. The corporation“s products enjoying high growth in output in the period included ceramic and granite tiles, ceramic sanitary ware and construction glass. Its industrial production and revenues are expected to be US$ 86.1 million and US$ 84.7 million in the last six months of the year.
