6 May 1999: Vidrios Lirquen, the largest Chilean manufacturer of flat glass, is to invest US$ 2 million during 1999, for improving and developing management, for the purchase of an electronic system for glass inspection, and for two other undisclosed projects. Vidrios Lirquen also invested US$ 2 million during 1998 in a plant for manufacturing laminated glass used mainly in construction. The management believes that with this investment, the demand will increase by 30%, despite the fact that the construction sector has declined in the past six months. The installed capacity of Vidrios Lirquen is 100,000 tons per year. Products manufactured by the company are sold locally and exported to Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela.
