Vetropack Nemsova, s.r.o, the only packaging glass producer in Slovakia, making around 200 types of glass containers, reported at the end of June 2009 that its 2008 turnover had increased 8.2% to SKK 1.75 billion (EUR 58.1 million). The company sold 469 million items of container glass in 2008, and increase of 3% year on year. Exports at Vetropack were 42% of output in 2008. Authorized company representative Gregor Gabel said that the company posted its highest growth in the segment of glass bottles for alcohol and wine, while the introduction of new PET bottles in the beer segment led to a significant drop in the sales of beer bottles on the domestic market. Sales remained stable in the food processing segment compared to the same period in 2008. The company invested SKK 282 million (EUR 9.36 million) in boosting productivity of production and improving the environment. Vetropack Nemsova, which employed 369 people at the end of 2009, is a subsidiary of the Swiss group Vetropack Holding AG, a renowned European glass packaging manufacturer. Other than Slovakia, the group also operates production plants in Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, the Czech Republic and Ukraine.
