Glass packaging manufacturer Vetropack Austria, a subsidiary of Swiss Vetropack Holding, increased its sales 11% year-on-year to EUR 156.5 million (USD 211.9 million) in 2008, the firm said on 24 March 2009. The company sold 1.4 billion items of glass packaging in 2008, with its sales in Austria rising 11.5% to EUR 97.3 million. The market for wine bottles and non-returnable beer bottles developed especially well in 2008. However, Vetropack Austria sees a fall in its sales in 2009. In 2008 the firm invested mainly in the modernisation of its production and testing facilities. For 2009 Vetropack envisages renewing two production lines at its plants in Poechlarn and Kremsmuenster, where the company employs a total of 621.
