The multinational firm Vesuvius and the town of Trinec have signed a preliminary contract on an investment worth EUR 6 million in the Baliny industrial zone, it was reported at the beginning of June. In 2003, the firm will open a new plant to produce special ceramics for silicon melting, which will be exported to Norway, France, and Great Britain, Trinec deputy mayor Vera Palkovska said. In the first phase, the firm is to employ 50 people in the Baliny-based facility. The first investor to launch construction of facilities in the Trinec industrial park in September is the Czech firm Kern, specializing in components for tire production. The Kern facilities should start production in the spring of next year and the firm is to employ 60 people. The Trinec industrial park has 20 hectares and was built by the town of Trinec in cooperation with the Trinecke zelzarny (TZ) steelworks at a cost of CZK 35 million. The town had received a CZK 24 million state subsidy. According to preliminary estimates, the new park should create up to 1,000 new jobs. The Moravia Silesian region, which suffers under an unemployment rate of almost 15%, offers investors land in seven industrial parks.
