Refractory products supplier Vesuvius, a billion-dollar subsidiary of Cookson Group plc, has selected the TriActive(R) System Manager IT solution, it was announced on 21 June 2004. According to a press release by TriActive Inc., Vesuvius anticipates its annual savings will substantially exceed the cost of TriActive“s system by eliminating the need for traditionally installed software and hardware infrastructure, and through increased productivity from automated asset tracking, faster problem resolution, automated software and patch installation and reduced end-user downtime. Vesuvius expects to deploy all nine applications of the TriActive System Manager to 3300 workstations in 75 locations worldwide by the end of 2004. Applications include Asset Management, Help Desk, Remote Tools, Software Utilization, Security Compliance, Patch/Software Distribution and Server/Network Monitoring. TriActive“s auto scanner collects IT asset hardware and software data then shares it across all applications so they work hand in hand. “Before we learned about TriActive, we were grappling with IT asset management and had partially deployed asset management and help desk point products which didn“t work hand in hand,” said John Heuvelman, IT director for Vesuvius North America, Champaign, Illinois. “With broad functionality and efficiency of shared data, TriActive should allow our IT team to make better decisions and do more with less.” “Specifically,” Heuvelman continued, “we can quickly identify installed software versions which are old or susceptible to viruses and bring them current without having to manually collect that data. We can now more easily support PC leasing because we can track lease dates and asset locations. We also get improved visibility into software deployment, reducing our chances of over- or under-licensing.”
