The Velux Group has issued a product warning to inform customers in 19 European countries about a minor risk of glass breakage in a specific type of small panes – up to 39 cm – manufactured and sold between 1997 and 2003. According to the group, under certain conditions, especially in winter, there is a slight risk that the inner glass may break, with the possibility of glass fragments falling. This type of spontaneous glass breakage due to implosion may take place if a number of factors arise at the same time, e.g. rapid changes in temperature, moisture, air pressure in the pane, size and design of the insulating pane and the general condition of the window. A thorough review of the incidents documents that they only involve small panes of a specific type produced between 1997 and 2003. Even though the risk is marginal, we take the quality of our products seriously and we have therefore decided to issue a product warning to inform our customers, says Michael Rasmussen, Velux Group CMO. The Velux Group has established local websites to help customers determine whether they have one of the panes in question. Customers are offered a new pane completely free of charge and a voucher to help cover installation costs. We recommend that our customers check whether they have one of the panes in question, and if so, visit the website for further information. We understand that people may be concerned, but we want to emphasise that the risk is marginal. We apologize for any inconvenience and will do our utmost to support our customers in the best possible way, says Michael Rasmussen. The product warning has been issued in the following European countries: Belgium, Luxembourg, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Holland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Poland, Switzerland, Spain, Sweden, Slovakia and Slovenia. For further information and instructions customers are asked to visit their local Velux website. The Velux product programme contains a wide range of roof windows and skylights, along with solutions for flat roofs. The Group also supplies many types of decoration and sun screening, roller shutters, installation products, products for remote control and thermal solar panels for installation in roofs. The Velux Group, which has manufacturing companies in 11 countries and sales companies in just under 40 countries, has about 10,000 employees and is owned by VKR Holding A/S, a limited company wholly owned by foundations and family.
