Danish roof window and skylight manufacturer Velux, an award winner for its solar collector at the 2001 edition of the Batimat biennial building expo in Paris, presented its new roof window solar shutter at the 2003 Batimat, held from 3 – 8 November 2003. The product is designed for use with an existing roof window installation, and is compatible with all generations of Velux windows. Photovoltaic cells and batteries integrated in the solar energy collector box allow the accumulation of enough energy to move the shutter. The solar shutter is operated through a battery powered radio frequency remote control. No cables are needed for the shutter and it can be easily installed even on the inside of the roof window. The SSL solar shutter will be available in the spring of 2004.
