6 November 1997: The Latvian glass fibre manufacturer Valmieras Stikla Skiedra (Valmiera Glass Fibre) has announced nine-month figures for January-September 1997. On turnover totalling 5.57 million lats, the company reported a net profit of 541,160 lats, compared to 648,000 lats for the same period in 1996. For the whole of 1996, Valmiera“s turnover amounted to 9.59 million lats for a net profit of 235,736 lats. Valmiera pointed out that although profit levels are below expectations of over 600,000 lats, large-scale reconstruction and renovation in the plant has led to higher extraordinary expenditure.
