Traco, Inc, which custom manufactures commercial and residential windows, doors, skylights, solariums, sunrooms, folding glass walls, and impact-resistant hurricane windows and doors has purchased a license from Research Frontiers Inc. to manufacture and sell SPD-Smart(TM) windows, doors, skylights and curtainwalls. In an SPD-Smart product, the user can manually or automatically adjust the amount of light, glare and heat allowed to pass through the glass. Research Frontiers Incorporated (RFI) develops and licenses suspended particle device (SPD) technology used in SPD-Smart(TM) light-control glass. The company operates from five manufacturing locations in the USA and one in Wuhan, China. Traco (R)“s SPD-Smart products will be offered for both commercial and residential architectural uses. The license, which is worldwide (except Korea) and is non-exclusive, provides for a 10% royalty on sales of licensed products. SPD-Smart film technology was recently awarded a Best of What“s New Award from Popular Science magazine for home technology and was also named by the Society of Automotive Engineers“ Aerospace Engineering as one of the top new technologies for 2002.
