5 February 1998: Unity First Acquisition Corp. said its proposed merger partner Boston Optical Fiber Inc. named John Cunningham its new president and chief executive officer of Boston Optical, a privately-owned optical fibre maker for computer networks and medical devices. Cunningham who was previously chief financial officer of Whirlpool Corp, replaces co-founder I. Edward Berman, who will remain chairman of Boston Optical, Berman said. The merger is expected to be completed in May, Berman said. Upon completion, Boston Optical shareholders will own about 62.5% of Unity First, reports say. Berman said the resulting company will be named Boston Optical. Unity First was formed in 1996 to merge with other companies with growth potential, the company said recently.
