Grampian Holdings of the UK announced the establishment of a UK 11 million freight depot in the South Midlands to extend the reach of its fast-growing Malcolm Group transport and distribution subsidiary. Sources close to Glasgow-based Grampian said the investment was underpinned by a new long-term contract with United Glass, the UK“s largest bottle manufacturer. United Glass, which is one of Malcolm“s largest customers, would account for 75% of all business at the 12-acre site at Crick, near Rugby, during its first phase of development, they added. The new depot, which will eventually have a direct rail link to Malcolm“s Grangemouth depot in Scotland, is situated close to the junction of the M1 and M6 motorways. It will serve as a new southern bridgehead for Malcolm, allowing the Scottish haulage company to extend its UK-wide distribution capacity.
