Unique Optical Industrial announced that 35-40% of its optical glass blanks shipped in the first half of 2010 was used in lenses of DSLR cameras and expects the proportion to keep increasing to over 50% in 2011. In 2009, Unique Optical recorded a global market share of 18.18% for optical glass blanks, which was second largest next only to Japan-based Ohara, the company pointed out. Unique Optical“s current monthly capacity is 20 million optical glass blanks, with Taiwan-based optical glass lens maker Kinko Optical and Japan-based Hikari Glass, a subsidiary of Nikon as two of its major clients.
