As reported on 5 October 2009, soda ash exports decreased by 39% or 16,282 tons in August 2009, compared to August 2008, to 25,464 tons, when revenues from exports decreased by 55% or USD 6.497 million to USD 5.313 million. Soda ash exports in August dropped 20.8% or 6,676 tons, compared to July. In January-August 2009, soda ash exports fell by 31.6% or 109,810 tons to 238,048 tons for USD 50.434 million compared with January-August 2008, compared to 347,858 tons for USD 89.422 million in January-August 2008. As previously reported, soda ash exports fell by 33% or 15,824 tons in July 2009, compared to July 2008, to 32,140 tons, when revenues from exports dropped 51.9% or USD 7.171 million to USD 6.641 million. In August, caustic soda (100%, excluding potash) production fell by 23.7% or 19,000 tons to 61,300 tons, compared to August 2008. In January-August 2009, production of soda ash fell by 32.2% or 210,800 tons to 444,300 tons year-on-year. In 2008, soda ash exports decreased by 9.2% or 51,315 tons compared to 2007, to 504,381 tons for USD 131.293 million (555,696 tons for USD 93.484 million in 2007). The Crimean soda plant (Krasnoperekopsk, Crimea) is the only producer of exported soda (A brand) in Ukraine.
