John Fredericks Plastics, one of the UK“s largest window makers, has bought conservatory and roof fabrication business S&J Marketing of Northampton, central England for GBP 3 million. S&J Marketing produces roof kits worth GBP 5 million per annum. Baring English Growth Fund recently increased its holding in JFP which allowed it to acquire S&J Marketing. JFP used to buy conservatory roofs in kit form from trade suppliers but the acquisition now means it does not need to buy in the capacity to produce the structural components and glass panels to build a conservatory. Steve Jones, managing director of JFP, said S&J was one of the best conservatory roof fabricators in the UK and praised the window frame and door manufacturing capabilities of his company. During 2001 JFP of Huddersfield was acquired by a team led by Mr Jones in a GBP 12 million management buy-in supported by equity funding from Baring English Growth Fund. Peter Whatson, a partner at the Fund, said the deal made good commercial sense and offered JFP many benefits. “The company will now be able to offer existing and potential customers the full one-stop shop service on conservatories,“ he said.
