Trading Standards inspectors in Newcastle (UK) are tracking down companies who are not using safety glass where necessary, by checking doors and windows which have been installed within the last six months. In a similar campaign in Stafford earlier this year they discovered one in four of the houses they checked had the wrong type of glass fitted and one company was fined UK 3,500. “Safety glass should be used in certain places like patio doors because it doesn“t shatter if you walk into it,” said inspector Bryan Cock. “But it is difficult for people to check, so we are looking for volunteers who are willing to let us check work they have had done.”
