Japan“s Tosoh Corp plans to shut down its 240,000 mt/yr vinyl chloride monomer plant in Yokkaichi from early March to early April for a turnaround, after which it would shut another 550,000 mt/yr VCM plant in Nanyo during early May-early June for a month of maintenance work, an official at the company said at the end of January. Tosoh will skip a turnaround for its other 260,000 mt/yr VCM plant in Nanyo. Tosoh is the largest exporter of VCM in Asia, and during the turnaround “our export availability would be reduced by one-third,” the official added. During the turnaround, several non-Asian cargoes were expected to be sold into Asia to fill the resilting vacuum. (See [PCA425]).
