Top quality jeweler and crystal retailer Tiffany & Co. will open a new outlet in The Gardens on El Paseo, an up-market shopping center in Palm Desert, California. The Tiffany store is scheduled to open in autumn 2003, in a 4,500-square-foot space. “It“s been part of a longtime effort by us to get a store like Tiffany in here, and it fit with Tiffany“s expansion plans,” said Tammy Perezchica, general manager of The Gardens. As well as jewelry, the store will carry a selection of accessories, china and crystal gifts. The 200,000-square foot Gardens center currently has about 45 stores in operation, including Saks Fifth Avenue, AnnTaylor and Talbots. Tiffany officials said the up-market location of the shopping center gives the company a good opportunity to reach its target customers in Palm Desert. According to Madison Marquette, The Gardens receives more than 1 million shoppers per year. “Palm Desert is an ideal location for a new Tiffany & Co. store that should build on the success of our other stores in Southern California,” said Beth O. Canavan, Tiffany“s executive vice president. Founded in 1837, New York City-based Tiffany operates more than 100 retail stores in the U.S., Europe and Asia, and it also has extensive catalog and Internet operations. Tiffany sales for fiscal 2002, ended 31 January 2003, totaled more than USD 1.7 billion, up about 6% from fiscal 2001.
