India“s Tata Chemicals Ltd., a leading maker of soda ash, salt and fertilisers, has signed a 10-year deal with Tata Consultancy Services for infotech outsourcing, aimed at improving productivity and reducing costs, the two firms said the first week of September. Tata Chemicals belongs to the country“s second-largest business group, the Tatas, while TCS is a division of Tata Sons, a private holding company of the group. Under the deal, TCS will provide Tata Chemicals end-to-end services “from shopfloor to boardroom”, including basic IT applications, support services as well as planning and implementing of plant automation systems. Tata Chemicals will have to spend INR 190-200 million over the next three years on implementing its IT plans, but savings are expected to be almost the same amount. This is the first end-to-end IT outsourcing deal that TCS has entered into, said Ravi Gopinath, head of TCS“ manufacturing practice.
